A shattered window might be worrisome. The sound of glass shattering echoes in our ears, reminding us of how easily our belongings can be shattered. When a baseball smashes through a window or a window is forced shut too forcibly and breaks, glass shattering typically has a clear cause. However, glass can break for a variety of causes that aren't usually evident, and while it's uncommon, a window with a window film applied can crack as well. What causes window panes to shatter? When a window with window film breaks, what happens? And what can we do to assist?
When a window breaks, what causes it to shatter?
A window can be broken for a variety of reasons, including:
- Thermal Stress: If a window gathers too much solar radiation, it might get deformed and crack.
- Tensile Stress: Glass fractures when the weight becomes too great for the way it is created.-
- Mechanical Flexing Stress: The wind can occasionally displace the glass within the pane, causing it to break.
Impact stress occurs when something impacts the window, such as a baseball.
When used as a building material, the twisting tension on the glass may lead it to break.
What happens if a window with window film breaks?
When a window cracks due to heat stress or seal failure, what occurs next? What happens when a window breaks due to thermal stress or seal failure? Window film can produce a build-up of thermal stress in your glass, which can be increased by a variety of variables, such as blinds or irregular outside shading. The 3M Standard Warranty covers the warranty.
Thermal Fracture: If a window with 3M window film placed fractures owing to thermal stress at any point during the window manufacturer's warranty period, 3M will pay for a replacement.
Window Seal Failure: The 3M standard guarantee for window replacement coverage is void if the window has an existing manufacturer warranty. For windows that are no longer protected by the manufacturer's warranty, coverage for thermal fracture and window seal failure is not available. Only the guarantee on the film product will be valid. Window film should not cause any window seal failures, and 3M is confident enough in this to offer a 40-month warranty on any window seal failures.
